Asalamu Alaikum – Peace be upon you
Welcome to Grains and Gains!
My name is Aishah Muhammed. In 2016, I graduated as a doctor and qualified as a personal trainer. I started this blog during my time in medical school as I wanted to create a platform to help Muslim women, like myself, develop a healthier lifestyle.
As a medical student and in my personal life, it was always evident to me that while many people want to maintain a healthy diet and be happy with their appearance, the motivation and knowledge to do this is often lacking. When I see patients who are suffering with diseases or conditions that could have been prevented through better lifestyle choices – my heart breaks because they are often in pain or under mental strain about their situation. Medicine has a massive role to play in keeping people in the best health possible however so does nutrition, exercise and lifestyle choices. Being a doctor is not just about curing disease when it presents itself to me in the hospital; being a doctor means educating myself and those I come in contact with on how we can live a life of health.
Through my blog, I hope to turn scientific research and textbook jargon into practical tips and easily understandable advice. I cover topics including (but not limited to!) health, fitness, productivity, self development and occasionally lifestyle. When I can, I also like to create and share my recipes.
You will find my posts are influenced by the teachings of Islam, as this a big factor of my life. This does not mean my posts are solely aimed at Muslims, as I hope anyone who comes across my blog can benefit from the research that goes into the posts I write.
My current posting schedule is Monday and Thursday.
